Nintendo Switch OLED deals for Black Friday 2022: How to pick one up ahead of the Christmas season

Following the initial disappointment that we wouldn’t be receiving a true, 4K-equipped version of the Nintendo Switch after all, players still ended up being dazzled by the Nintendo Switch OLED’s new vibrant screen when it launched on October 8th, 2021. It simply offers Nintendo fans a better way to enjoy playing games in handheld mode. As such, is it any wonder demand for the upgraded console has skyrocketed since release?

This leads us to wonder what the best Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED deals will be. This year’s mass sales event is officially set to begin from November 25th, 2022, giving prospective UK players the chance to pick the console up at a bit more of a bargain. Now that the Nintendo Switch OLED has been out for a year we’re far more likely to see a price slash than last year and in addition plenty of opportunities to pick it up slightly cheaper as part of a Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED bundle. Here’s what you can expect…

Will there be any Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED bundles available?

This is the million-dollar question, isn’t it? But the easy answer is simply: yes. Because despite not discounting the price of the console itself, several Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED bundles are likely to be made available, in order to onboard new players for cheaper. It isn’t known yet whether these bundles will be mandated by Nintendo directly or not, yet there’s a high chance this will occur on a retailer level. Several of your favourite UK storefronts – both online and locally – are expected to compile Nintendo Switch OLED bundles in an effort to stay competitive.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are releasing a week before Black Friday alongside a special edition Nintendo Switch OLED, it's highly likely we will see some competitive Black Friday bundles with the 9th generation Pokémon games. After all, why pay £309.99 for the console and then an extra £50 for a game when it’s more affordable to pick them up together? Black Friday 2022 is sure to see many more examples of this happening, only now with a wider range of first-party Nintendo Switch games such as Splatoon 3, Kirby and the forgotten land, and quite possibly even The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Which retailers will have Nintendo Switch OLED stock on Black Friday?

The good news about Nintendo Switch OLED bundles this Black Friday, is that most UK retailers who traditionally offer gaming deals will take part. That means outlets like Amazon, GAME, Currys, and Argos will compile their own separate Nintendo Switch OLED bundles – and depending on how much great value they offer, each bundle might sell out relatively quickly. Nintendo itself is yet to put together an official Nintendo Switch OLED bundle with a game built in (Special Edition consoles do not come with the games thus far for the OLED). UK retailers should, therefore, be inspired to put their own together.

Of course, as mentioned earlier, the Nintendo Switch OLED released a year or so ago meaning that we might be likely to see discounts on just the solus console this Black Friday. That means if you’re someone looking to upgrade from a Standard Model to the new OLED screen and already have stack of Nintendo Switch games built up, our advice would be to hold off buying a Nintendo Switch OLED until the Black Friday sales begin.

On what day do the Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED deals begin?

This year’s Black Friday sales event officially kicks off on November 25th, 2022, but you’re likely to see a few Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED bundles (and gaming deals in general) trickle out slightly earlier. This is especially the case in 2022, where global supply issues and chip shortages have meant hitting a particular release date or sales window has gotten trickier. Black Friday 2022, therefore, is expected to start rolling out the week beginning November 21st, right through until the following Monday. Will the Nintendo Switch OLED stock hold until then? That depends on how good the Black Friday deals are!

Will the Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED deals be ready in time?

We’re still living in uncertain times, but if we’re honest the demand for Nintendo Switch OLED units wasn’t as high as you’d see with an entirely new console – like PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series. However, since launch the console iteration has been incredibly well received, and that means stock of the Nintendo Switch OLED has constantly been floating in and out at various UK retailers. That said, the hope is that retailers like Argos, GAME and others have ensured a good stock flow so as to meet the level of Black Friday demand.

What Nintendo Switch OLED games will be discounted for Black Friday?

The great thing about the Nintendo Switch OLED being a console upgrade rather than a total new generation is that all existing Switch games are compatible. That means if you’re already a Switch player looking to upgrade, when playing in handheld all the games you already own will look and play better than ever before on the OLED. Unfortunately, Nintendo isn’t one to discount its own first-party Switch games, unless they’re part of a Nintendo Switch OLED bundle.

Luckily, lots of third-party publishers like Ubisoft, EA and Activision are known to deeply discount the price of their games every Black Friday – and that includes those on Nintendo Switch. We highly expect to see mega-hits from last year like Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, for instance, dip around the £15 mark after sitting at around £29.99 for much of this year. In summary, there will be lots of third-party Switch games discounted for Black Friday.
