Nintendo Switch OLED Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Nintendo Switch OLED?

The current RRP for the Nintendo Switch OLED was £309.99, it sometimes will fall below this during sales and can be picked up in bundles where the games/accessories included are discounted.

What comes in the Nintendo Switch OLED box?
  • Nintendo Switch OLED Console
  • Re-designed Nintendo Switch dock with LAN port so you can connect to the internet via ethernet
  • 2 Joy-Con controllers (1 set)
  • 2 Joy-Con wrist straps
  • Joy-Con grip accessory
  • Nintendo Switch AC Charger
  • HDMI Cable
How long does the Nintendo Switch OLED console battery last?

Battery life is dependent on what you're doing with your console, some games are more battery intensive than others however it is approximately 4.5 - 9 hours. Keep in mind you can charge your console whilst playing handheld using the included AC adapter or dock the console and continue to play.

How much storage does the Nintendo Switch OLED come with?

The console by default comes with 64GB of storage and around 6.1GB of this is used for the console's operating system thus meaning you're left with approximately 57.9GB of usable space. This can be expanded with the use of MicroSD cards up to sizes of 2TB which you can purchase separately from the console.

What does "OLED" stand for

OLED stands for "organic light-emitting diode" which differs from LCD screens as it does not have a backlight. Pixels can be turned on and off individually in order to emit light which means in order to show deep black colours individual pixels can be turned off which allows for greater contrasts in comparison to other types of screens/panels.

Do all Nintendo Switch Games work on the new OLED model?

Yes, the complete library of the Nintendo Switch is compatible with the Nintendo Switch OLED. The only issues you may have are regarding the Nintendo Switch LABO accessories that don't necessarily function with the new screen-size.

What resolution is the Nintendo Switch OLED?

In handheld the Nintendo Switch OLED puts out resolutions of up to 720p and when docked up to 1080p. This is the same as the standard Nintendo Switch model.

Our Nintendo Switch OLED Edition: Unboxing

Learn more about the Nintendo Switch OLED model

The Nintendo Switch OLED launched on October 8th, 2021 followed soon after by Switch exclusive Metroid Dread which made a great pairing. The Nintendo Switch OLED model offers players an even better way to experience Nintendo games thanks to a larger, better-quality screen. The 7-inch OLED will render both recent and upcoming Nintendo Switch games more beautifully than ever, presenting graphics using a vivid level of colour that isn’t possible on other Switch console models.

One of the main reasons to pick up a Nintendo Switch OLED this year will be the release of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on May 12th 2023. This sequel to the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild has Nintendo fans understandably excited and we definitely think it's a solid reason to pick up a Nintendo Switch OLED. With a great back catalogue of exclusives, third-party gems and upcoming releases there's plenty to enjoy if you do decide to purchase.

The overall size of the Nintendo Switch OLED model isn’t bigger or smaller than the standard Switch, but the screen can achieve 7 inches of space thanks to the much slimmer bezel. High-contrast levels and improved colour variation ensures that people who play Nintendo Switch on the go now receive a premium experience, akin to what you’d typically see when playing games on an OLED TV. At launch the Nintendo Switch OLED model is available in two colour SKUs: Neon and White.

A wide adjustable stand for better tabletop play

The Nintendo Switch OLED model features a wider stand than any other Switch model, letting you set the console down to play in tabletop mode without risk of it toppling over. This makes for an ideal viewing angle in which to enjoy the new 7-inch OLED screen in all its glory.

64GB of built-in memory – double than before

The standard Nintendo Switch comes with 32GB of internal storage. The new OLED model, however, effectively doubles that to 64GB. This means more space to store all your digital Nintendo games before having to expand it through a MicroSD card.

Improved dock with dedicated LAN port

If you’re a Nintendo Switch owner that enjoys playing multiplayer, the Switch OLED model gives you a method to effectively cut out lag with the addition of a wired LAN port. Not only will this allow for more stable online play, but should eradicate slowdown when playing Cloud games.

Onboard front-facing speakers deliver enhanced audio

The Nintendo Switch OLED model packs a better audio punch thanks to the redesigned unit which places speakers on the front rather than back. This ensures you can enjoy enhanced sound when playing in handheld or tabletop modes.

Nintendo Switch OLED Special Editions are coming thick and fast

Unlike Sony, Nintendo keeps the tradition of special edition consoles alive with simultaneous releases of their big titles. We saw a vibrant Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch OLED in September 2022; then we had the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Nintendo Switch OLED in November of 2022. When it comes to the Nintendo Switch OLED Special Editions you tend to pay around a £20-30 premium for a different dock and joy-cons when compared to the White and Neon Blue/Red versions of the Nintendo Switch OLED. It's important to note that these special edition Nintendo Switch consoles tend to not come with their associated games. This is a bit of a shame but if you're a huge fan of a game series and in the market for a new Nintendo Switch, these special editions are definitely tempting. Keep in mind they tend to always sell out and have limited runs of stock with both the aforementioned limited edition consoles being quite tough to find close to RRP.

We'd expect another special edition Nintendo Switch OLED alongside the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom but don't worry we'll have that on our Nintendo Switch OLED comparison as soon as it's available to pre-order.
