What's new for the PS5 Slim?
The PS5 Slim has recently been announced and should be released in November 2023 in the US and a few months later in the UK and other regions. It looks like this new Slim model is going to be completely replacing the old PS5 models. This means all new official bundles going forward are going to feature the PS5 Slim and we'd expect the old models to slowly be phased out (hopefully with some solid discounts. This new console comes in a much smaller form factor compared to its predecessor with a total reduction in volume of around 30% which is why it is being referred to as the PS5 Slim. It also comes with a larger storage with 1TB instead of the 825GB that was on the original PS5 model. The recently released Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3: PS5 Bundle is likely to be the final 825GB PS5 official bundle.
One fantastic new feature of this model is that if you decide to buy the PS5 Slim Digital you will be able to buy a separate PS5 disc tray and still play physical games if you feel the need to later on. This disc tray will not be compatible with the original PS5 Digital. Whilst a lot is changing with the PS5 Slim it's important to know that here in the UK the RRP is staying the same. So buying a PS5 Slim is not going to cost you more than the old PS5 unless the old one sees some large discounts of course.
Design-wise this new smaller form-factor may appease a lot of users who have found the old models to be far too big for their gaming units. As standard, the PS5 Slim will come with a horizontal stand only and if you want to have your console vertical you will have to purchase a vertical stand separately which will set you back £24.99.
