Offering an incredible value for money proposition for gamers, the PS5 Digital Edition features the incredible power of the fully fledged PS5 model, but, as the name suggests, does away with the disc drive and offers a significant saving in the process.
The PS5 Digital Edition is the first all-digital console Sony have ever produced, and represents a growing trend of gamers to favouring digital downloads of games that they can access instantly after installing on their console.
While some will always favour the idea of physical media, the PS5 Digital Edition is the perfect choice for players who tend to focus on a smaller number of games for longer, and therefore won’t get the usual benefits associated with trading in games regularly. If you’re the sort of player who finds yourself going back to the same few games over and over for years and years, then the PS5 Digital Edition is the perfect way to save yourself some cash.
Just how much cash? Well, the PS5 Digital console has an RRP of £359.99 – a full £90 less than the standard version. With stock appearing to be extremely scarce, it could be a good long while before we see any significant price reductions or deals, so the Digital Edition will continue to represent the best value PS5 for the foreseeable future.
We compare prices on the PS5 Digital Edition from all the UK’s leading major retailers, as well as finding bundles with games, accessories, and everything you might need for the ultimate PS5 gaming experience.
One advantage of the PS5 digital edition is the ability to double up on your savings as a result of certain online key sellers providing PSN currency cards for less than their actual value and PlayStation themselves often running deep discounts on their games. Check out our comparison for PSN gift cards to see the current savings. This means that although you're unable to buy physical games for the PS5 digital edition you might be picking up games even cheaper!
The design of the PS5 is rather striking and in-person it is definitely larger than a lot of previous Playstation consoles. The PS5 digital as a result of not having a disc drive is sleeker and symmetrical compared to its counterpart making it both more aesthetically pleasing and easy to fit into your gaming set-up. Plus whilst you're saving money on the console itself you're also not having to store all those physical games on your shelves, keeping them nice and tidy!
The PS5 digital edition RRP is £359.99
There is no difference in the internals or performance of the two consoles. The major difference is that the standard PS5 console has an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive whereas the PS5 Digital Edition does not. This means you will be tied to only being able to purchase digital versions of games for the PS5 Digital Edition. By not having a disc drive this means that the PS5 Digital Edition is slightly smaller and sleeker than its counterpart. Also means that you will not be able to use physical PS4 discs in your PS5 Digital Edition if that was something you'd have wanted the option to do.
