Horizon Forbidden West is easily the most anticipated first-party PlayStation exclusive right now. Originally set to release this holiday, Sony has since confirmed that Guerrilla’s dino-hunting sequel will release on February 18th next year for both PS4 and PS5. Today the lid on Aloy’s sequel adventure was lifted a little more, as a new post over on the official PlayStation blog detailed all the various editions you’ll be able to buy at launch.
We knew that PlayStation and Guerrilla would be pushing the boat out, but damn have we got a lot of options here. Ranging from the straightforward simplicity of Horizon Forbidden West’s Digital Deluxe Edition all the way up to the Regalla Edition’s sheer extravagance, we thought it worthwhile to break down what you can expect to get in each in this handy pre-order guide. As already alluded to there is a catch with some of these, which we’ll mention after wading through all the edition options.
The standard edition of Horizon Forbidden West you’ll be able to find in most shops. No fancy bells and whistles, just the base game with maybe the odd retailer-specific pre-order bonus. Players will have a choice to pick up either the PS4 or PS5 version of the game at retail.

Horizon Forbidden West
This is the vanilla version of Horizon Forbidden West you can buy from the PSN, and it comes with a lot of digital goodies. Digital Deluxe Edition isn’t available anywhere else other than the PlayStation Store, and it is cross-gen with both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.
The Special Edition is a small step up from Horizon Forbidden West’s standard version, treating you to the base game as well as a few physical treats. As with the standard edition, you must choose between the PS4 or PS5 versions of the game as there is now cross-gen compatibility.
This is where things really start to get crazy with Horizon Forbidden West. The Collector’s Edition comes with almost everything mention so far, plus two statues depicting Aloy herself as well as a custom sculpted Tremortusk robot dinosaur.
The granddaddy of Horizon Forbidden West’s different editions is the Regalla Edition, which features a different version of the Tremortusk statue. This one is coated in red and covered in arrows, and is likely going to be very tricky to find.
So what’s the catch? Well, in case you haven’t already noticed it’s that not every edition will come with both console versions of PS4 and PS5 Horizon Forbidden West. Sony states in the blog post, “For players looking to have access to both the PS4 & PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, please purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, or Regalla Editions. Dual entitlement does not apply to the standard and Special Editions."
It's yet another bow to PlayStation’s rather confusing strategy to next-gen upgrades. Some games like Metro: Exodus are a FREE upgrade, while others like Spider-Man: Miles MoralesandGhost of Tsushima: Director’s Cutare a separate purchase. It seems that both the digital, Collector’s and Regalla editions of Horizon Forbidden West do come with both the PS4 and PS5 versions, while the Standard and Special Editions do not.
