Following on from the sweltering summer sun July gave us, the month of August looks to be keeping the heat turned up high with plenty of hot new releases hitting Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. To save you scouring the web for the best games coming out in August, however, we’ve collated all the best of them below – listing the exact date of release and which platform you can buy it on.

There’s plenty of variety on offer here. Whether you’re into car destruction, interactive horror dramas or open-world actioners with plenty of activities to do, August doesn’t disappoint and features new games perfectly suited to every type of player. Better still, all the prices listed below will be those from Base.com, which is an ideal place to pre-order these upcoming games as you’ll pay nothing until they officially release.

So, without further ado, let’s look at what August has in store for players:

The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan (August 30th)

A new interactive horror adventure from the makers of Until Dawn, Man of Medan is the first in a planned series of anthology horror games, letting you take hold of five character who have found themselves trapped on a haunted ghost ship. The story is one that’s influenced by your choices and decisions, weaving and changing directions togive every player a unique outcome. It’s out on PS4 and Xbox One this August 30th, so make sure to bring a clean pair of pants.

Control (August 27th)

Control is the first project Remedy Games has released since 2016’s Quantum Break, repurposing some of the cool third-person ideas born in that game and taking them much further here. You play as Jesse Faden, a person forced to enter a shady organisation called the Federal Bureau of Control in search of her lost brother. It promises to be a mind-twisting descent into the unknown, with the Metroid-like structure constantly altering to keep you on your toes. Featuring a cool combination of supernatural powers and satisfying shooting, Control is out on PS4 and Xbox One on August 27th.

Astral Chain (August 30th)

A Nintendo Switch exclusive from the makers of Vanquish, Bayonetta and MadWorld, Astral Chain is an incredibly stylish action game that places you in the shoes of a police officer tasked with eradicating crime from a neon open world. There’s also an onslaught of alien-like creatures now threatening to invade the world, making it more important ever that you do the duty of an enforcer and use every weapon and skillset available to you. It arrives on Nintendo Switch August 30th, continuing what has already been a great year of exclusives for Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Wreckfest (August 27th)

If your aching for some classic car combat and demolition derby then Wreckfest is a new August game that could be perfect for you. It’s all about creating the most epic crashes possible, driving hard to engage in crazy car-to-car battles. There’s plenty of vehicles to get behind the wheel of, and customisation options include roll cages, side protectors and much more. If you don’t want to race cars and would prefer to crash them, Wreckfest does this and more. Look forward to it when it officially releases on PS4 and Xbox One August 27th.

Madden NFL 20 (August 2nd)

Releasing the very same day that this blog post goes live, Madden NFL 20 from EA is the latest entry into its wildly popular American Football sports franchise. New this time around are improved physics and the ability to play as a coach, manager or player – however you like to experience your American Football it’s covered. Ultimate Team makes its long-awaited return to the online portion, while a fully-fledged career you lets you climb the ranks to the best NFL superstar.
