The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Back in 2017 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released, whilst the Zelda series of games host some of the best titles of all time it was still surprising how incredible Breath of the Wild actually was. This entry in the Zelda series shook up and redefined the established open-world genre rewarding exploration without simply covering a map with icons. The game's story is non-linear allowing players to experience at their own pace and go anywhere they want as long as they have the correct tools etc to do so, you could climb any mountain as long as your stamina was high enough, then jump off and glide to that shrine you saw way out in the distance. This was a game world that was one you wanted to live in, and would struggle to pull yourself out of. For all these reasons and more Breath of the Wild was hailed as one of the greatest games ever created, which is the highest praise and is most certainly deserved. Now, in 2023, we're going to see the game's sequel The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Following up on a game that is hailed as one of the greatest ever is always going to be tough but in Nintendo we trust. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has seen several delays since its original announcement which only aligns with Nintendo's usual strive for perfection. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been said to be the final "large project" on the Nintendo Switch console, and this seems like the perfect series to twilight the hardware before seeing what Nintendo's next platform will be. Nintendo seem to be giving very little away with the sequel, information is very limited and trailers are veiled with mystery; it would seem that the Breath of the Wild sequel continues the story from the first game, it is also set in the same Hyrule we saw before however, the skies above have opened up with new floating islands and dungeons to explore.
We look forward to seeing how Nintendo push the Zelda series forward, expanding on the systems of Breath of the Wild and hopefully meeting the enormous expectations of this title! The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
No, you can still enjoy The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without playing Breath of the Wild. However the plot, setting, and gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will most certainly have strong ties to Breath of the Wild, and we'd wholeheartedly recommend playing Breath of the Wild regardless, as it is a once-in-a-generation game.
