In what is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets the video game world has seen in quite some time, Microsoft has now finally revealed the release date and price point of its new disc-less variant of the Xbox One S. It's officially called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and will launch on 7th May for £199.99/$249.99 USD.
This announcement confirms a lot of the details we reported on in an earlier blog post back in March, with the new unit itself largely resembling the design of the existing Xbox One S – albeit one without a disc drive. It’s in line with Microsoft’s increased push towards getting players to move their games library online, reinforced by services like Xbox Game Pass and its streaming rival to Google’s Stadia, Project X Cloud.
Priced at £199.99 here in the UK, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will also come packaged with download codes for three first-party games – Minecraft, Forza Horizon 3, and Sea of Thieves. We find it a little odd that it’s Forza Horizon 3 included and not its 2018 sequel, but it’s no great loss when you consider that new purchasers can take advantage of a three-month trial of Xbox Game Pass for just £1, which features Forza Horizon 4 as part of its line-up.
Also announced alongside the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition’s formal reveal was the news of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: a new bundle that merges the benefits of both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live together in one neat subscription. It’ll cost US players $14.99, with no word what the equivalent price will be in the UK just yet.
Now that we know the May release date and the £199.99 price point, will you be picking up the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition at launch? If you’re an Xbox owner looking to declutter it could be the perfect solution.
