Do you believe that dreams can come true? Wish really hard if
so, because that immensely cool-looking Metroid set proposed on the LEGO Ideas
website in April of last year has finally progressed to the next stage. After receiving
in excess of 10,000 supporters, designer L-DI-EGO’s set is now ‘in review’ by
the professional LEGO boffins.
Should they deem it as viable set that people would be
willing to buy, the uncannily accurate brick-based representation of Samus Aran’s
Gunship could join the likes of Back to the Future: DeLorean, Voltron and The
Beatles’ Yellow Submarine in being given the go-ahead. The set itself actually
looks rather quant in comparison to some of those other examples, so there’s
every chance this nifty depiction of Nintendo’s classic sci-fi series could be
set on your shelf rather soon.
News that the Metroid: Samus Aran’s LEGO Ideas set had
passed into the next stage was picked up by Thomas Leroy on Twitter, who noted “I
just received an email from LEGO telling me that Samus Aran's ship is now in
the ‘In Review’ state”.

As you can see from the images embedded in the Tweet, the
set would come complete with a Mino Figure of Samus Aran herself, as well as
her iconic gunship seen in the beginning of all the early games. There’s even a
Metroid creature itself contained in a watery tube. Details on what is needed
for the Metroid set to get full approval aren’t explicitly known, yet it’s
likely that the thumb’s up from Nintendo itself is one of the most important
factors.
With how poorly the Metroid series has been treated in
recent years, here’s hoping the Japanese publisher is willing to have Samus’
adventures LEGO-fied. 2021 actually marks the 35th anniversary of
the beloved Sci-Fi franchise (alongside The Legend of Zelda), but there’s been
no additional word on Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch in quite some time. Please
Nintendo, make up for it by letting us drool over this LEGO set.
