Up until now, Nintendo Switch players haven’t been able to listen to in-game audio remotely while playing on the big screen – the official Pro controller simply didn’t support it. Headphone enthusiasts can now rejoice, however, as one gamepad manufacturer has finally heeded the call and revealed the very first Nintendo Switch controller to feature a built-in 3.5mm jack: The Faceoff Deluxe+.

One thing to bear in mind right away is that, while an officially licensed controller by Nintendo, this is actually the efforts of a third-party manufacturer that has taken matters into its own hands – so they can eventually put the fruits of their efforts into yours. The Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller is available to purchase now and will allow Switch players to plug in any headset while adjusting volume on-the-fly using the Deluxe+’s D-Pad.

There’s an argument to say that the need for such a controller is limited to just a small percentage of players, but regardless, anyone who plays their Switch primarily in docked mode will likely get a kick out of being to immerse themselves further into the game. Handheld gamers have been able to do just that since launch, but now it’s an option open to all.

The Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller outright apes the design of the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller so should feel just as comfortable to hold. One new addition, however, is the ability to remove certain controller elements – like faceplate, thumbsticks, button layouts – and customise accordingly to let players achieve the ultimate functionality.

Will you be taking advantage of the first Switch controller with a built-in headphone jack? It’s sure to come in handy the more multiplayer-centric games we see released for Nintendo’s hybrid console.
