We know, we know. The PS5 isn’t even out yet but believe it or not, it’s already worth thinking about what PlayStation 5 bundle might be best for you. Otherwise, when Sony’s next-gen console releases in November, you might find yourself at a loss when the expected round of launch packages arrive. It’s important to not get caught off guard. No official PS5 bundles have yet been announced, but we already have a pretty good idea at which launch games will likely be included in the offer.

It’s worth mentioning one thing we do know: there will be two PlayStation 5 variants at launch. The standard PS5 will include a disc drive to let you play physical games, while the PS5 Digital Edition should be more suited to players who prefer downloading their games. At this stage, we’ll assume that both console types will receive similar treatments in terms of available bundles.

What do you get in a standalone PlayStation 5 bundle?

As well as the various game-specific PS5 bundles we expect to see at launch, players will of course be given the option to purchase a standalone PlayStation 5. Picking up this package sees you receive the console itself (either with a disc drive or without), a PS5 Dualsense controller and any needed cables and wires. Sony is yet to mention whether a dedicated PS5 camera will come include, but they did luckily confirm that the PS4’s existing camera will be compatible.

How much will a standalone PlayStation 5 bundle retail for? There’s still no official answer. However, analysts predict that the standard PlayStation 5 console could retail for $499/£450 based on the known technical specs. There will, of course, be a discount for players picking up the PS5 Digital Editon, yet there’s no word on how much cheaper this SKU will end up being.

Price prediction for the standard PS5 bundle: £449.99

Spider-Man: Miles Morales PlayStation 5 bundle

Absolutely! Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac games, which currently ranks #1 as the best-selling PS4 game ever. The existence of Spider-Man: Miles Morales was first revealed at the beginning of June as part of Sony’s first PS5-focused event. Its release window is set for “holiday”, which all but confirms that it will be releasing with the console.

If there is a Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 launch bundle, don’t expect Sony’s new box to sport a a full redesign. The PlayStation 5’s default colour is set to be White for both the standard and Digital Edition, and Sony won’t want to confuse consumers arriving to pick one up on day one. While a limited edition PS5 themed in the style of Spider-Man would be nice, there’s a bigger chance of this happening when the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 arrives in future.

Price prediction for the Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 bundle: £479.99

PlayStation 5 family bundle (Astro’s Playroom/Sackboy)

The PlayRoom was a PS4 pack-in that came pre-loaded onto every console – whether you wanted it or not. It served as a great showcase for the potential of future games, also giving new purchasers something to play instantly. Well, it must have worked, because Sony is doing something extremely similar for the launch of PlayStation 5, bundling in another bot-based selection of mini-games called Astro’s Playroom.

While there’s been no official word that we’ll see explicit PS5 bundles centred around Astro’s PlayRoom, purchasers should expect to see it fully promoted on the console’s box. What’s more, there’s always some launch bundle specifically geared towards the family audience. That’s what leads us to believe that both Astro’s Playroom and Sackboy: A big Adventure might receive its own PS5 bundle. It’s an educated guess, but one made knowing Sony’s previous moves in the sector.

Price prediction for the family PS5 bundle: £499.99

Godfall PlayStation 5 bundle

The first ever confirmed PS5 launch game was Godfall, a new ‘looter-slasher’ developed by Counterplay Games and being published by Gearbox Software. And while not a PS5 first-party title, it is a PS5 exclusive, releasing on PC but not Xbox Series X. This leads us to believe that Sony has shown great interest in this title, potentially having purchased exclusivity rights for a limited time. If they’re willing to do that, then what’s to stop them getting a Godfall PlayStation 5 bundle ready for launch?

It’s not unheard for PlayStation to secure big third-party tie-ins, as early on the PS4 generation we saw console bundles for the likes of Destiny and Batman: Arkham Knight. This means there’s a solid chance we could see a Godfall PlayStation 5 bundle ready for when the new console launches. The game is due out in “late 2020”, indicating that the devs know the date and might be keeping schtum precisely for this reason.

Price prediction for the Godfall PS5 bundle: £499.99
