Over two decades after the original released back on the Nintendo 64, players are being given the chance to photograph wild Pokémon all over again in New Pokémon Snap coming to the Nintendo Switch. You’ll explore a wide range of environments and luscious scenery that all boast their own native creature types. From here it’s all about being patient and waiting for the perfect moment to snap that shot.

This is the best opportunity Nintendo Switch players have to get up close and personal with their favourite Pokémon, with every Lapras, Pichu and Squirtle utilising the full HD potential of the console. The Lental region is made up of several different islands available to travel to, all of which feature specific routes and let you get creative when discovering the local Pokémon wildlife.

New Pokémon Snap brings tropical sightseeing to Nintendo Switch

This is one 2021’s most exciting Nintendo Switch exclusives, inviting you to fill out your Pokedex by being brave and snapping Pokémon in their natural habitat – you may even capture previously unseen behaviours. Much has changed since 1999 when the first Pokemon Snap released, with various more breeds and critters now waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re in a dense jungle, dry desert or overgrown jungle, this new iteration has lots to see and do.

New Pokemon Snap is expected to make excellent use of the Nintendo Switch’s natural gyroscopic controls, letting you move and manoeuvre around the console itself when in handheld mode. You’ll be able to physically point and snap at any collectible critter that enters your sight, waiting patiently for the perfect pose so you can garner the most points for your pokedex. Like previous Pokemon games, New Pokemon Snap will have you use the Switch in unique ways.

Work with Prof. Mirror to solve Pokemon mysteries

You’re not entering the Lental region alone in search of wild Pokémon. New Pokémon Snap puts you under the guise of Professor Mirror, working with him to uncover the mystery of a new type of Pokémon known only as the Illumina. It’s your job to get out there and start snapping, as your photos may be key to learning more about their strange nature.

Explore varied environments and use bait creatively

As well as expert photography skills, players on Nintendo Switch will need to consider the environments they’re in and what tools that have around them. Getting better photos, for instance, might often mean using specific fruit types to entice creatures closer. You’ll also have to account for positioning and perfect shot composition, considering whether or not your subject is looking at the camera.
