Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a reborn Mortal Kombat universe on PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PC and Nintendo Switch on September 19th

Thanks to the Fire God Liu Kang, a whole new Mortal Kombat universe has begun. Netherrealm has chosen to reboot the legendary Mortal Kombat series and give it that fresh feeling with redesigned characters and an all-new story arc for fans to enjoy. 

Don't worry you're still gonna get all the brutal fatalities that made Mortal Kombat so famous and some satisfying fighting action with a huge roster of fighters both new and returning. Expect the beloved Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Johnny Cage to all be a part of the roster. The story mode will feature a fully-fledged campaign with plenty of cinematics and an online mode with lend to the longevity of the game as you master your favourite fighters against foes online. Mortal Kombat 1 will feature many improvements from 2019's Mortal Kombat 11 as well as adding a new Kameo fighters mechanic, allowing you to tag in other fighters for special combos and giving more options for customisation for your own fighting style.

Shape your own playstyle with Kameo fighters, more choice and more fun

The new Kameo mechanic allows you to select a Kameo fighter from a secondary roster during the character selection. This then means you will have access to some of their moves and you can mix and match your primary fighter and Kameo fighter's movements. Kameo fighters will be summoned with a specific input which will cause them to come on screen and perform an attack which can be used to combo with your main fighter's attacks. This mechanic definitely adds a lot of fun and variability to the gameplay and seems like a solid evolution for Mortal Kombat.

Homelander, Omniman and more coming in Kombat Pack 1

Netherrealm have already shown what will be coming in their first DLC in Spring 2024 which sets the precedent for future character packs in Mortal Kombat 1. Kombat pack 1 will include Ermac, Homelander, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Quan Chi and Takeda. A pretty awesome lineup if I say so myself. The fact that Anthony Starr will also be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 should be incredible, and the egotistical maniac of a superhero definitely fits the Mortal Kombat universe incredibly well.
