Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Trailer
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Overview

The JRPG spin-off remastered from the ground up for a new generation on PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC

Following the immense success of 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix is again giving series fans a revitalised way to get in on the story of Cloud, Sephiroth, and Zack – this time in the form of a ground-up remaster for Final Fantasy VII’s PSP prequel. Reunion will mark the first time Crisis Core has been made available to play on any other platform, and now it looks more beautiful than ever.

Taking place seven years before the mainline Final Fantasy VII story, Crisis Core: Reunion is primarily the story of Zack Fair, a 1st Class member of SOLDIER and Cloud’s future best friend. As the original wielder of the Buster Sword, he’s primed to get to the bottom of Shinra’s dark experiments, which players will now get to experience using a similar type of real-time action recently seen in Final Fantasy VII Remake. The graphics in Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion have been completely overhauled almost from scratch, giving it the feel of a modern game.

The events of Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion are sure to play a big role in future entries, meaning that anyone who enjoyed the 2020 remake and was questioning the late arrival of Zack in the story will want to pay attention. It’s coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch as well as PlayStation and PC this time, too, so nobody need miss out on this exciting prequel story.

The same beloved story, completely overhauled graphics

Crisis Core originally being a PSP game means the graphics haven’t aged the greatest. That’s why Square Enix has gone in and decided to give Zack’s adventure the modern graphics treatment, reworking environments, cut scenes, and character models so that they look just as beautiful as any other modern game released today. Especially on PS5 and Xbox Series X, this is the best the Final Fantasy VII prequel has ever looked.

Real-time combat helps keep the action slick

Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion not only looks like a modern action game, but feels like one too thanks to a revamped combat system that sees Zack and friends handle with absolute speed and grace. There will still be chances to slow down the action thanks to an expanded version of Crisis Core’s slot machine gameplay alterations, but for the most part it’s real-time action that shines through the most.

Newly arranged soundtrack pays tribute to the original score

Music is just as important to any Final Fantasy game as its world, characters, and location. That’s why it’ll delight long-time fans to learn that the original composer for Crisis Core, Takeharu Ishimoto, has returned to remix and remaster his score for Reunion with new arrangements. This will of course include the battle theme, in addition to motifs belonging to specific characters. It won’t be hard to be instantly transported back to the world of Final Fantasy VII.
