Despite having scheduled a 50-minute digital showcase in honour of Tokyo Game Show later this month, Microsoft higher-ups has told viewers not to except any news about its upcoming next-gen console. This essentially means that we won’t be getting any further details regarding the Xbox Series X price or release date before September 24th 2020. Instead, the tech giant clarified that the stream would be highlighting “Japanese game creators and games”.

This news was announced via a tweet from the official Xbox account, where a bullet-pointed list specifically makes mention that “no new next-gen news” will play a part in the show. Tokyo Game Show itself is slated to take place over four days between Sept 24th and Sept 27th, with the Xbox showcase set to air at 21.00 local time on the first day.

Such a move falls perfectly in line with Xbox head Phil Spencer’s intention to boost the brand in the Japanese market, but leaves players that were hoping to hear more about Xbox Series X price, release date and pre-orders out in the wind. This is surprising considering that Xbox previously stated “starting with the May 7 episode of Inside Xbox, we will be showcasing what happens next in the world of Xbox, every month.” This schedule was kept to in June and July, but there was no such presentation in August.

Tokyo Game Show is still a good opportunity for Xbox to solidify its Japanese presence ahead of the Series X’s launch in November of this year, being the perfect way to talk about games coming to both Xbox platforms while side-stepping any more mention of the recent Halo Infinite delay. There will be a segment entirely dedicated to MS Flight Simulator for PC, though most of the limelight will be shed on exciting Japanese titles.

As soon as we hear more details about the Xbox Series X’s price or release date, we’ll let you know. Until then, be sure to check in with our Pre-Order guide.
